INTRODUCTION
GABATOP 100 CAPSULE contains Gabapentin which belongs to the group of medicines called Anticonvulsants. It is used in the treatment of various forms of epilepsy alone or in combination with other medicine and treats peripheral neuropathic pain.
Epilepsy is the disturbed nerve cell activity in the brain, causing seizures or periods of unusual behaviour, sensations and sometimes loss of consciousness. Peripheral neuropathic pain is a long-term weakness, numbness or pain caused by damage to the nerves in hands and legs characterized by a feeling of hot, burning, throbbing, shooting, sharp, tingling, numbness.
Do not stop taking GABATOP 100 CAPSULE suddenly, as this may lead to increased risk of seizures. Your doctor might want to take certain tests before starting the treatment.
GABATOP 100 CAPSULE should be used with caution patients having kidney problems, are on hemodialysis, muscle pain and/or weakness, suffer with different types of seizures including absences, persistent stomach pain, feeling sick and being sick (symptoms of inflamed pancreas), history of drug dependence or abuse, intolerance to certain sugar, have nervous system or respiratory disorders.
GABATOP 100 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. GABATOP 100 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children aged below 6 years and should be used with caution in elder patients 65 years of age and above.
One of the serious side effects associated with GABATOP 100 CAPSULE is self-harming thoughts, contact your doctor immediately if you experience such unusual reactions.
The most common side effects of taking GABATOP 100 CAPSULE are dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, viral infection, lack of coordination. Consult your doctor if the above symptoms do not improve.

HOW GABATOP 100 CAPSULE WORKS
GABATOP 100 CAPSULE works effectively by altering the electrical activity in the brain by inhibiting the voltage-gated calcium channels and decreasing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters, thus preventing fits or seizures.GABATOP 100 CAPSULE also blocks the pain signals travelling through the damaged nerves and the brain and prevents nerve pain.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take GABATOP 100 CAPSULE as directed by your physician. Swallow GABATOP 100 CAPSULE as whole with a glass full of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Correct dosage and duration will be prescribed by your doctor depending upon your age, body weight, and health condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF GABATOP 100 CAPSULE
COMMON
- Fever, chills, runny nose, cough
- Drowsiness, dizziness, lack of coordination
- Tiredness, fever
- Pneumonia
- Signs of upper respiratory tract infection (sore throat, inflamed sinuses, common cold)
- Signs of urinary tract infection (bladder pain, foul smell, cloudy urine, frequent urination)
- Inflammation of the ear or other infections
- Eating disorder characterized by low body weight, increased appetite
- Anger towards others, confusion, mood changes, depression, anxiety, nervousness, difficulty with thinking
- Jerky movements, difficulty with speaking, loss of memory, tremor, difficulty sleeping, headache, sensitive skin, decreased sensation (numbness), difficulty with coordination, unusual eye movement, increased, decreased or absent reflexes
- Blurred or double vision
- High blood pressure, flushing
- Difficulty in breathing, bronchitis
- Vomiting, nausea
- Problems with teeth, inflamed gums
- Diarrhea, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, flatulence
- Joint pain, back pain, twitching
- Difficulties with erection (males)
- Swelling in the legs and arms, difficulty with walking, weakness, pain,
- Accidental injury, fracture, abrasion
UNCOMMON
- Increased heartbeat
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Swelling of the face, trunk and limbs
- Mental impairment
- Increase or decrease in blood glucose levels (in diabetic patients)
RARE
- Loss of consciousness
- Breathing problems, shallow breaths (respiratory depression)
Stop taking GABATOP 100 CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Skin rash, hives, fever
- Swollen glands that do not go away
- Yellowing of your skin or of the whites of the eyes
- Unusual bruising or bleeding
- Severe weakness
- Unexplained muscle pain
- Frequent infections
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea or Vomiting:
Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Try to Avoid oil rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks, and drinks. Try to drink liquid slowly along with your meals, or in between meals. Consult your doctor if your symptom is not improving.
Dizziness:
Lie, or sit down immediately when you feel dizzy. If you’re feeling severe episode of spinning(vertigo), lie in a quite place with eyes closed. Try to avoid vehicle driving. Discuss with your doctor if the symptom worsens.
Headache:
Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Try to take rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee. Massage on scalp or head with mild pressure. Consult your doctor if your symptom is not improving.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. Try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Talk to your doctor if the symptoms does not improve.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of fluids such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid eating fried and greasy foods. Inform your doctor if the symptoms do not improve.
Constipation:
Drink more water, eat high fiber foods and get regular exercise. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
GABATOP 100 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant woman or women planning to have a baby unless prescribed by your doctor. Effective contraception must be used by women of child-bearing potential. Consult your doctor before taking GABATOP 100 CAPSULE.
BREASTFEEDING
GABATOP 100 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women as it may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking GABATOP 100 CAPSULE.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines, because GABATOP 100 CAPSULE may cause dizziness, drowsiness and tiredness.
KIDNEY
GABATOP 100 CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems or undergoing hemodialysis. Consult your doctor before taking GABATOP 100 CAPSULE.
ALLERGY
Do not take GABATOP 100 CAPSULE if you are allergic to Gabapentin or any other ingredients of this medicine.
OTHERS
Before taking GABATOP 100 CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:
- Have acute pancreatitis with signs of persistent stomach pain, feeling sick and being sick)
- Have nervous system disorders, respiratory disorders
- Muscle pain and/or weakness
- Suffer with different types of seizures including absences
- History of drug dependence or abuse
- Intolerance to certain sugars
Use in pediatrics:
GABATOP 100 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children aged below 6 years. Consult your doctor before taking GABATOP 100 CAPSULE.
Use in geriatrics:
GABATOP 100 CAPSULE should be taken with caution in elderly patients aged 65 years or above. The dose will be adjusted by your doctor. Consult your doctor before taking GABATOP 100 CAPSULE.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking GABATOP 100 CAPSULE inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Medicines containing opioids such as morphine (used to treat pain)
- Antacids such as aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide (medicines used to reduce heart burn, indigestion)
- Other medicines for convulsions (Ex. carbamazepine, phenytoin)
- Sleeping disorders (Ex. benzodiazepines)
- Depression, anxiety (Ex. fluoxetine)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of GABATOP 100 CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Signs of overdose includes loss of consciousness, dizziness, double vision, slurred speech, drowsiness, tiredness, and diarrhoea.
